What it is.

i.
i. Philosophy

A gloss varnish printed in registered patterns over a matte field. The contrast is the subject: a pinstripe of gloss against soft-touch laminate, a wordmark sealed in clear over uncoated paper, a pattern that only catches the light from one angle.

We register spot-UV to ink and emboss at ±0.2 mm. Most common over soft-touch laminate, where the matte-and-gloss contrast is most pronounced; also used straight onto coated stock for a more subtle effect.

Drawn at the artwork stage — the spot-UV file is a separate spot colour in the print PDF. We preview the gloss line on a sample sheet before going to production. Runs inside the production schedule — no extra lead time.

What buyers ask first.

Huamei · FAQ

What does spot UV add to a box?

A glossy varnish printed in registered patterns over a matte field. The contrast — gloss against soft-touch or uncoated — only catches the light from one angle. Used for wordmarks, decorative patterns, and accent panels.

What stock does it work best over?

Soft-touch laminate is the strongest pairing — the matte-and-gloss contrast is most pronounced. Also works straight onto coated stock for a more subtle effect.

How is it specified in artwork?

Spot UV is drawn as a separate spot colour in the print PDF. We preview the gloss line on a sample sheet before production; the screen cannot show how light catches the varnish.
